How to Take a Break (Block Calendar Dates)
Learn how to block out dates when you're unavailable for bookings, whether for holidays, personal time, or training days.
Everyone needs a break sometimes. Blocking dates in Bridal File helps you manage your availability and prevents accidental bookings on days you're not working.
Blocked dates show a warning if you try to book on them, but you can still override if needed. Perfect for holidays, personal days, training, or any time you're unavailable.
Step 1: Access the Calendar
Navigate to Calendar from the sidebar. Choose your preferred view, either Month or Week. You'll find the Block Dates button in the top toolbar.
Step 2: Blocking a Single Date
Click the Block Dates button, then select the date you want to block. For a single day, leave the end date the same as the start date.
Optionally add a reason like "Holiday", "Personal", or "Training". This helps you remember why you blocked the date when you look back later.
Pro Tip: Adding a reason makes it much easier to manage your availability long-term.
Step 3: Blocking a Date Range
For holidays or extended breaks, set both a start date and end date. All dates in the range will be blocked, and your reason applies to the entire range.
This is perfect for annual leave, Christmas breaks, or any time you're away for multiple days.
Step 4: Viewing Blocked Dates
Blocked dates appear with a shaded pattern on your calendar. In both Month and Week views, you can easily spot which dates are blocked.
Hover over a blocked date to see the reason (if you set one) and find the edit button.
Step 5: Editing or Removing a Block
Plans change. To edit or remove a blocked date, hover over it and click the edit icon. You can change the date range or reason, or click Unblock to remove the block entirely.
Step 6: Understanding Booking Warnings
If you try to create a booking on a blocked date, you'll see a friendly warning showing the reason you blocked it. You can choose to cancel and pick a different date, or override and create the booking anyway.
This is a safety net, not a hard block. If a special opportunity arises on a blocked date, you're still in control.
Common Reasons to Block Dates
- Annual leave and holidays
- Christmas and New Year
- Bank holidays
- Personal appointments
- Training or courses
- Family events
- Mental health days
- Travel days before or after destination weddings
Remember: Blocked dates act as reminders, not hard restrictions. You can always override if needed. And if your plans change, just unblock the dates.
